Hey Divas

Having a fun girl’s trip has been on the top of my list since I moved back to America. Since I was younger the number 35 was always stuck in my mind.  I remember talking to my mom before I left for college about what I wanted to do with my life and the only thing I could think of was I don’t want to have kids and be married until I’m 35. I want to have a great job, friends, and just live my life the way I want to.

Well as we know life throws us a few wrenches in our plans and some things don’t happen the way you want it to. Well this year my 35th birthday is here and I was able to stick with some of my plan and some things turned out better than I thought.  So I decided I wanted to do something fun for my birthday and have a no responsibility weekend with girls.  I was so excited when my girls decided to go to Miami with me.

Now I don’t think they know I’m a super planner and like to do something different everyday and always moving.  In the beginning I didn’t know what I wanted to do in Miami but I knew I didn’t want to do South Beach. Now I love a good beach day but I wasn’t really interested in being on the strip with loud music expensive food and over populated touristy areas on Collins Ave.

It took me a while to find a nice hotel off the strip but I finally found a beautiful hotel in Coconut Grove which is about 15 min away from Miami Beach. As always I use booking.com for the best prices on all of my hotels.

We ended up staying at the Mayfair Hotel which was beautiful and reminded me Thailand with modern inspired décor. Our executive suite was equip with stone floors and marble bathrooms with Roman spa tubs that were complemented by opulent details including Egyptian cotton bedding, The best part of the room is that it came with a patio with a Jacuzzi tub and outside eating area.

I promised myself this year that I would spend the next 5 birthdays out of the country no matter what. So I tried to find something quick for us to do for a day and Bahamas was just the perfect place. After a little research I found a boat that travels from Miami to Freeport Bahamas daily.   Luckily for us we found a Groupon and we had a coupon for 25% off so the round trip boat ended up costing us about $59 bucks. The ride was not the best or anything I expected, but a great way to travel for a short trip to Bahamas.

I have not been to the Bahamas in about 15 years so I was excited to relax and lay on the beach doing absolutely nothing for a day.  On the boat you can purchase a day pass and excursions in Freeport, Bahamas that were discounted at a great price.

We ended up enjoying our time laying out on the beach talking, drinking, and enjoying the few hours we had of no responsibility.  The resort we stayed at was the www.TheGrandLucayan.com next to the light house, which was absolutely amazing.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was exploring Little Havana. I absolutely love walking tours where you get the opportunity to explore the area with a local residents. I found a great tour that I wanted to try for $39.00  on Groupon that included two hour tour, food, and drinks at Ball and Chains (which was amazing by the way).

After the walking tour by the request of my BFF we headed over to Wynwood Art District to find www.houseofmac.com.   I had no idea what were looking for but knowing Mianca @miamis528 this was going to be fun and adventurous. When you get to Wynwood Yard you are surround by a plethora of food trucks with a variety of different food that is heaven if you are a foodie. It has a small event space in the open court yard for yoga, local artists, and they even have special events throughout the summer.

I have to admit this was a major highlight of my trip because I love a good outdoor space that has great food, drinks, and great company.

If you are ever in the area this is a must see gem in the city that is surrounded by art, small boutiques and shops, and head over to World Famous House of Mac to get a taste of their Lobster Mac.
